Good Afternoon Deep River Parents,

Here are your quick email points for this week. Please be sure to also go to our school website or follow us on Twitter @DRES_Principal.  The PTO would also like you to check out the DRES PTO Facebook page for upcoming activities!  The January School Newsletter is now up on our webpage and Virtual Backpack. 

Today is an early dismissal day and there is no school on Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

  • The DRES Book Club is now filled to capacity for the spring session.

  • Attention Grade 6 Parents: Please be sure to help your student complete and submit their yearbook biography information sheet and return it to their classroom teacher.  They are due no later than February 3.

  • THE SCIENCE FAIR IS COMING!!! Our annual DRES Science Fair will be held again this year at the beginning of March.  Official Science Fair information and sign-up packets were sent home. They are also up on our Virtual Backpack as well. 

Timeline of Events for Science Fair Participants:

    • December 15 – Science Fair Information is Sent Home
    • January 19 – Science Fair Permission Slips are Due
    • March 1 - 5:00 - 5:30pm Open for Student Set-up of Science Investigations
    • March 1  – 5:30 – 7:00pm: DRES Evening Science Fair Viewing for Families
    • March 2 – 9:00 – 11:30am – DRES Day Science Fair Viewing for Students, Judging and Science Fair Winners Announced

  • At the end of this month our Enrichment Clubs will resume. Ms. Carfi and Ms. Crowell’s Green Club will resume in March and Mr. Drinkard and Mr. VanderMale’s Sports Club continues to run on a monthly sign-up basis. If you have specific questions regarding a club please be sure to contact or email that teacher directly.
    • Mr. Halpin’s Jazz Band: Grades 5 - 6
    • Mrs. Kingston’s Multi-Cultural Club: Grades 2 - 6
    • Mrs. Meislitzer’s Dance Club: Grades K-2
    • Ms. Macaione and Dr. Ricci’s Book Club:  Grades 4 - 6 
    • Ms.Westman’s Computer Club: Grades 5 - 6 

  • January 18 we will have two assemblies for our SK8 4 Life Presentation by MobileED productions.   The assembly will discuss ideas of effort and perseverance, goal setting and positive attitude. Thank you to the DRES PTO for sponsoring this event.

  • The Harlem Wizards Basketball Game will be held at Valley Regional High School on Wednesday, January 24th. Please see the attached flyer for details.

  • DRES WINTER CHORAL CONCERT: The January Winter Choral Concert will now be held on Thursday, January 25.  There will be an afternoon concert at 2:00 and an evening concert at 7:00. 

  • The DRES PTO’s “Someone Special” Dance will be Friday, February 9 from 6:00 to 8:00.


Please use the form attached to this email to order tickets. The form is also on our school website and virtual backpack.   The dance will be an opportunity to spend the evening with a special adult.  There will be a photographer present, and a DJ will be providing music. Please be aware that the parent or guardian accompanying the child is expected to stay at the dance with their child.


Once again, the DRES PTO “Someone Special” Dance will be held on Friday, February 9th. For additional questions regarding this PTO sponsored event, please contact Mrs. Rachel Welch at rachelwelch17@gmail.com.
