Dear Deep River Parents,

  • Here are your quick email points for this week. Please be sure to also go to our school website or follow us on Twitter @DRES_Principal.  The PTO would also like you to check out the DRES PTO Facebook page at https://m.facebook.com/drespto/for upcoming activities!

Attached to this week’s email:

  • Annual Deep River Veterans Day Drawing and Essay Contest
  • Camp Rising Sun “Lose Your Locks” Event
  • YMCA Thumbnail Image
  • DRES Dance Club

  • Dogs at Parent Pick-Up: We know that some families will choose to have their family dog with them during parent pick-up at the end of the school day.   Some of our students do have allergies and we request that those families please be considerate in giving ample space with their dogs from students as they are dismissed. Thank you for your help and cooperation with this.

  • From Mrs. Meislitzer - Dance Club is still open to all boys and girls in grades K-3.  There is a maximum of 15 members on a first come first serve basis.  The Dance Club session will meet weekly beginning on September 25th and end on November 27th from 3:15-4:00.  Dance Club will not meet on October 31st.  I am internationally trained ISTD & RAD dancer in ballet, modern, jazz, & tap as well as a certified Radiant Child Yoga teacher.  I am excited to share my love of dance to our youngest students.  This year, Dance Club students will be exposed to several different styles of dance, creative movement through stories, and yoga.

  • Information regarding our Annual Deep River Veterans Day Drawing and Essay Contest is attached to this email.  Our local American Legion organizes this contest.  We ask that you take a moment to discuss it with your child and hopefully participate.  We are hoping to really build and increase our participation in this event this year to show our support to our local American Legion.  All sixth graders should be aware that participation in this essay contest is now a prerequisite for consideration for the annual Edward Weselcouch writing award.

  •   We are excited to announce that in collaboration with the DRES PTO, on October 12 we will be having our whole school learning experience in partnership with the Mystic Marine Life Aquarium.  Grades K and 1 will experience two workshops and an interactive touch-tank experience in the morning with an assembly on Sharks that afternoon here at DRES.  Grades 2 - 6 will travel to the aquarium for their learning experience.  This day will have multiple connections to our work with Next Generation Science Standards, Critical and Creative Problem Solving, and our work on developing Habits of Mind. We are incredibly fortunate that this experience is being provided at no cost to our families thanks to the fundraising efforts and generous work of our  DRES PTO. Permission slips for students in grades 2 - 6 were due today.  If you have not sent your child’s in please be sure to do so by Monday, September 24.

  • Picture retakes are scheduled for November 9th for students who were absent on our original picture day or would like to have their picture retaken.

  • Our annual wrapping paper fundraiser has begun!   This fundraiser helps provide money for field trips and other grade level curriculum supplies.  The sales will run 9/11/18 - 10/1/18 with delivery before Thanksgiving. Checks should be made payable to DRES Activity Fund.  If you would not like to participate in the fundraiser but would like to donate to your child's grade level, checks can be made out to DRES Activity Fund with the grade level on the memo line. Thank you for your support.

  • Region #4’s Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Kristina Martineau sent out an email regarding our annual district policies and statements. Please be sure that you have followed the link to and completed the Google form to confirm your receipt of this document.

Dear Families,

At the start of each new school year, we are required by Connecticut law to share with you district policies and statements.  In prior years, these documents were copied and sent home with each student.  This year, we are transitioning to an electronic distribution of the 2018-2019 Required Annual Notifications to Parents and Students.  To access this document and confirm receipt, please follow the link below.  At the end of the document link, you will be asked to acknowledge receipt of the notification.  This is required for our records and replaces the paper signed copy collected each year.

Paper copies of this document will be available in the main office of each school.  The Annual Notifications are also available on our district website.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to access the link and confirming receipt of this notification via the provided link.

Kristina J. Martineau, Ed.D.

Assistant Superintendent of Schools

Chester, Deep River, Essex, and Region 4 Schools

• Parents, when reporting your child absent, please be sure to call in the absence and be sure to provide a note when your child returns to school with the reason for the absence.

•Just a friendly reminder that all visitors to our building must sign in at our front office first and leave their driver’s license at the front desk.  This is done for student safety as well as accounting for all individuals in our building at any given time.  Thank you.
