Be sure to check your child’s backpack on Monday afternoon.  Report cards will be coming home.

Next Thursday and Friday are early dismissal days for our Parent Teacher Conferences.  Be sure to check your schedules to arrive on time to meet with your child’s teacher.

Deep River Elementary’s “Day of the Arts” will be on Monday, March 26.  Numerous artisans and presenters will be in the building that day working with students in grades K – 6.  This is always an exciting day for all of us.  Thanks to Ms. Carfi, Mrs. Grow and the DRES PTO for helping us organize this event!

Tuesday, March 27 and Wednesday, March 28 will be our PTO’s Spring Book Fair.  Wednesday will be our parent night event for family shopping.

The DRES Annual Tip-A-Teacher event will be held on Thursday May 3rd at Saint Joseph’s Parish Center in Chester, CT from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.  Please see the attached flyer for additional details.

Remember that each time your child is absent to send in a note with a reason for your child’s absence.  We cannot count the absence as excused until we receive signed documentation from the parent. Thank you.

Alicia Farrell, PhD will be returning to John Winthrop on April 4th.  The presentation will focus on Resilience and Grit. Dr. Farrell was extremely well received during her first presentation on “Anxiety, The Monster Among Us”.  This presentation will delve deeper into helping parents understand and develop resilience and grit in our children.  Join us for a special evening at John Winthrop Middle School, Deep River, CT on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 6:30-8:30. Please join us,  this event is free of charge.

Be aware that it is important that all students arrive at school on time.  Excessive lateness can have an impact on your child’s ability to start the day off properly as well as overall academic and social success.  If students accrue multiple tardies we will be sending communication letters home.  Thank you for your support in this matter.

Be sure to pay all unpaid lunch balances.  We appreciate your support in helping to keep our negative lunch balances down.

Deep River Little League is encouraging families who are interested in signing their children up for baseball or softball to go to  www.deepriverll.com.  Sign-ups are now open!!!

Although we are still very much focused on our efforts and progress this year, we are also looking ahead to who will be joining our kindergarten classrooms and DRES school community next year. With that being said we are often aware of the students who are looking to join us in the fall, but we also need your help in talking to community members, family and friends about Kindergarten Registration.    Our Kindergarten Welcome Night is scheduled for March 29th at 6:30.  This event provides parents of an incoming kindergarten student the opportunity to learn more about the Deep River Elementary kindergarten program. We encourage any and all parents who have a child starting kindergarten in the fall to attend this event.  We hope that you will help us get the word out to families about kindergarten registration.  If you know of a family who is thinking about starting their child in the fall or needs a registration packet, please encourage them to call our front office at 860-526-5319 and ask for Mr. Strickland or Mrs. Zupan.  We will be more than happy to help out!
