·      Thank you to everybody who came to the DRES Spring Chorus Concert this past week.  Congratulations to Ms. Caffrey and all of our Chorus students for providing such an outstanding concert.

·      Next Wednesday, DRES will be participating in “Warrior Day.” We will have multiple students from Valley Regional High School in the building providing community service by helping out in our classrooms.  We are very excited to welcome them!

·      Please be aware that the DRES in–school Memorial Day Ceremony will be held on May 26th. It is now scheduled to start at approximately 10:15 Family members who have served or are still serving our armed forces are invited to join us for the assembly as well as a free lunch from our cafeteria following the ceremony.

·      The Deep River Elementary School Band will be performing in the Deep River Parade Monday morning, May 29th.  I’m looking forward to seeing you there or along the parade route!  Here is your necessary information:

The Memorial Day Parade is rapidly approaching and our DRES band members are working very hard to ensure they make a strong musical contribution to the day’s events.

Who:            All DRES band members in grades 4-6

When:  Monday, May 29th at 8:30 a.m.  (Ending approximately 11:00 a.m.)

Where: Start: The Church Street green     End: The War Memorial

Dress: DRES band shirt (provided), khaki shorts, & comfortable sneakers.  Shirts must be tucked in.

Bring: Music on cardboard, lyre, & instrument.  DO NOT BRING YOUR CASE!

Students will need a lyre for the parade (except percussion).

These may be purchased at any music store or online.  Face Arts on Main St. should have them in stock.   Please obtain a lyre and affix your music onto a piece of cardboard as soon as possible.

EAT BREAKFAST, DRINK FLUIDS, & WEAR SUNBLOCK!

Carrying an instrument for a mile while playing a song upwards of 20 times in 90° weather is no easy task.  Please make sure you prepare for the day with food and plenty of liquids.

Dismissal

At the conclusion of the Memorial Day ceremony, ALL parents must check in with Mr. Halpin or Mr. Strickland in order for students to be released.  This is to ensure the safety of all of our DRES students.  We will make this process as fast and smooth as possible.  We thank you in advance for your full cooperation with this procedure.

Volunteers

We need parents to march along with our students on parade day.  Volunteer duties may include giving students a break if they are not feeling well, providing water, and just looking out for the general well-being of our students.  If you would like to help, please contact Mr. Halpin at SHalpin@Reg4.k12.ct.us or 526-5319 ex. 23.

·      IMPORTANT! Due to a scheduling conflict we will be changing the date of the DRES PTO’s “Someone Special” Dance from June 2nd to Friday, June 9th from 6:00 to 8:00.

Please continue to use the form that was sent home to order tickets. The dance will be an opportunity to spend the evening with a special adult.  There will be a photographer present, and a DJ will be providing music. Please be aware that the parent or guardian accompanying the child is expected to stay at the dance with their child.

Once again, the DRES PTO “Somebody Special” Dance will now be held on Friday, June 9th.

For additional questions regarding this PTO sponsored event, please contact Mrs. Rachel Welch at rachelwelch17@gmail.com.

·      Parents, when your child is absent you must be sure to send in a note for their reason for absence.  If we do not have this note we are required to code the absence as an unexcused absence.

·      Please be sure to pay all unpaid lunch balances.  We appreciate your support in helping to keep our negative lunch balances down.
