Governor's Summer Reading Challenge

The Governor's Summer Reading

Summer 2019

Theme for Summer 2019
A Universe of Stories!

Each year students at Deep River Elementary School participate in the CT Governor Reading Challenge. This program sponsored the Connecticut State Department of Education and the Governor's office is meant to encourage and support students' engagement in reading over the summer months. Students at DRES that participate in the Summer Reading Challenge can turn their materials into our school librarian in the Fall when they return to school and can earn an additional recess with other students who have participated in the Challenge. Furthermore, supporting students in participating in this challenge will help prepare students in their upcoming school year, but will also ensure that they do not regress in terms of their reading abilities over the summer.
Finally, it is meant to be fun for their own personal enjoyment. As all reading should be!
